Thank you for this, Jason. Others have discussed this very thing: having a safety net that allows one to take risks that others cannot afford to take — but you’ve put it in such a way that everyone can understand without making them feel bad about it at the same time.

Acknowledgment and acceptance are powerful things. One should not feel shame for the hand they’re dealt, but acknowledging these simple truths allows the conversation to continue without being forced to feel guilty.

I think you should submit this article to another publication. This should be printed elsewhere in the mainstream news cycle; not because of what you’ve stated (as it has already been discussed ad nauseam) but because of how you’ve said it.
