This one I fell in love with, truly
I began working for American Airlines. As an established Project Manager, and all of my past crushes behind me, I was finally able to land my dream job.
Then he came along …
His smile could brighten anyone’s day. His voice was deep and sent shivers down my spine with every word.
We met during orientation. We were getting access to the various programs we would need to fulfill the duties of our job. He happened to get the laptop next to mine and I discovered that his dog’s birthday was the same as mine! Can you believe it? I was over the moon!
That’s when I found out that he was actually in the pilot’s program! No wonder I found him so attractive. He looked very young and shy so I didn’t bother asking if he was married. He definitely didn’t have a ring on either!
At the end of orientation, he asked if I wanted to go to lunch. I couldn’t believe it! Finally, someone showed me the attention I craved!
It was such a beautiful day. The sun was shining, the birds were singing, and his voice sent shockwaves through my body every time he spoke. I could listen to him for hours, and I did.
Our lunch turned into dinner. Dinner turned into a sleep-over. And the sleep-over turned into, well, you know.
I fell in love with him so hard. He said he always dreamed of a woman like me. I never felt so wanted in all my life. He had me. I was his.
Then it happened.
We were together for eight years. Our kid’s name is Charles Vandersmith III and he’s so adorable, but after wondering where Charles was for days, I discovered something so horrible. So tragic.
Charles, the love of my life, would be gone for weeks at a time because he’s a pilot for AA. I missed him so and I would tell every man I worked with that I was taken. Even when a man just walked up to me to ask me where the public restroom was, I’d say “my fiance told me the bathroom is right over there!”
But one month, my fiance had been gone for three weeks. Like usual, he couldn’t find phones where he had his layovers so I always had to wait for him to return home to talk. But this one day, and I remember it clearly. He calls me from Ohio and tells me that he’s married!
It took me 12 seconds to breathe again. I couldn’t believe the man I fell for that day in orientation had held this from me for all these years. He had been married the whole time and has 7 other kids.
Because of this, I decided to always go on Facebook and check the feed of every man I crush on. Charles had a Facebook profile since the day we first met and his wife and kids were all on there. I always wondered why he refused to join Facebook but now I know.
